Thing is a beast. It dwarfs even the Solara. Not bad for $1,600. More details to come. Also when I got in his old car to move out of the driveway it refused to start, had to push it out of the way.

A Grand Marquis. And it’s in good condition, too. Nice buy, man. My Crown Vic was a $3,300 buy, but that was because it’s in the Puget Sound area (prices are inflated around here).

Believe me, you’re going to enjoy driving it. There are also some aftermarket stuff for the Panther platform as well that you can look up on ADTR.net. But let me tell you this: Make sure you do the usual after doing a used car buy.

Replace/test all fluids. And make sure the brakes are in good condition.

Because it’s such a big car, good brakes is a must.

All that aside, the Panther platform is a great “group” car. Good for when you’re bar-hopping, or road-tripping with friends.

Solid, reliable cars. I’ve now had three Panthers - an ‘09 Grand Marquis (traded for a Mustang, as it was never the same after a tree limb crushed the roof), an ‘84 Town Car (recently sold) and an ‘08 Town Car I just got (traded in a 2016 Challenger, zeroed out the car payment to offset the house I just bought, and have a company car for work now anyway).

Tell your brother that I will beat him with my Crown Vic’s belt drive if he skimps on the maintenance. In a decade, the Panthers are going to be as rare as the Crown Victoria LTD’s.

I love these cars. Nothing better for a road trip. Good catch.

That’s a nice price. They’re under powered, but robust and dependable.

The final gen ones are great - the earlier cars had recirculating ball steering that was bad when it was working (and even worse when it wasn’t, which was frequently). It looks like a boat and drives like one too, but it sure is comfy. Should provide a few years of faithful service.

My father in law has 3 retired CVPIs sitting by the barn. I really would like the gray unmarked ‘05 that only has about 80k miles. It was a small town detective car and it doesn’t even really have a mark on it. Unfortunately buying another car would require either draining the savings or taking a cash advance on a credit card. Both of those would make my wife awfully stabby.
